What is my funder’s policy?
All research papers that have been accepted for publication in a peer-reviewed journal, and are supported in whole or in part by the Wellcome Trust, must be made available from Europe PubMed Central (Europe PMC) as soon as possible, and in any event within six months of publication. The policy now also applies to book chapters and scholarly monographs. To comply, you usually need to pay Open Access costs. See further details, and contact us to claim from our Charity Open Access Fund.
UK Research Councils
The UKRI Policy on Open Access applies to peer-reviewed research papers, which acknowledge Research Council funding. To comply, you can choose the ‘green’ route by uploading your Accepted Manuscript in Pure, or the ‘gold’ route by claiming costs from our UKRI Block Grant.
Ensure you have acknowledged the funding that supported the research in your paper in the format: “This work was supported by the Natural Environment Research Council [grant number].” If applicable, include a statement on how the underlying research materials can be accessed.
EU (Horizon 2020)
Following the Open Access Pilot in selected EU FP7 programmes, the European Commission (EC) now requests open access to all peer reviewed research articles resulting from Horizon 2020 project funding. You should include any associated costs in your EU grant applications.
